The development of the Television Test Card and Tuning Signals

Television Identification Symbols have come a long way from static slide captions. We've seen mechanical models, filmed animations, electronically generated idents, laser disk playout and now video servers. This section is young and still growing, but we present television idents from UK terrestrial, satellite and cable, from 1936 to the present day. Covering the announcments and captions between programmes, particularly when things go wrong. Prepare the Guest Room for Mr Cock-up. Also includes the launch of Channel 5, BBC Experimental Colour transmissions, coverage of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and the BBC and IBA Engineering Information bulletins. This section provides television listings from days gone by. What could you watch in the '30s, '40s and '50s? What did you watch in the sixties, seventies and eighties? Stroll down our memory lane and see what you remember!
